Jacoline Schot is a multilingual music teacher. Dutch-Swiss, she was born in India and grew up in Switzerland. She started her musical training at the age of 7 at the “Institut Jacques Dalcroze” in Geneva, and studied at the Geneva Music Conservatory.

Music, children and pedagogy resume her life’s passion.

She became interested in the Suzuki method thanks to her autistic grandson whose key appeared to be music. Her experience includes teaching music to children in situations of diverse handicaps, mental, emotional or physical.

The SAA has awarded her with two scholarships for piano teacher training, in Lima, Peru, and in Oakland, California. She was a top recipient of the ASI -American Suzuki Association- scholarship for violin teacher training in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The Suzuki method has opened new and unlimited horizons to her life. “Every child can!” She desires to impart the wonderful and priceless gift of music to children (and children at heart) as long as she lives. Beautiful music is an avenue to express a human being’s deepest emotions. It brings hope, comfort, healing and love. It connects us to the spiritual dimension where all things are possible.

Chloe Ross is the founder of The Studio Violin, a Suzuki violin studio located in Lafayette, California. Founded in 2015, The Studio Violin is a warm and welcoming studio offering expert instruction in violin studies for children ages 3 to 18. Chloe is a Suzuki Association of the Americas Certificate of Achievement recipient as well as a recipient of the Suzuki Association of the Americas Distinguished Young Teacher Award. Chloe also serves as the Assistant Director of the Japan-Seattle Suzuki Institute. She has been a guest lecturer at The International Music Teacher’s Exchange Conference in Remscheid, Germany and was a presenter at the 2024 SAA/ASTA Biannual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

Chloe began studying violin at the age of three, in Seattle, Washington under the tutelage of Kathleen Boyer- principal second violinist with The Seattle Symphony. As a “Suzuki kid” herself, Chloe attended many institutes around the country including the advanced Japan-Seattle and Ithaca College Suzuki Institutes. Along with her Suzuki studies, she was also a member of The Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra program.

In 5th grade, Chloe moved across the country to begin musical studies at The Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. As a student at Longy, she studied music theory, music composition and history, and performed in monthly masterclasses with many notable renowned violinists. She was the youngest ever admitted member of The Longy Youth Chamber Orchestra, becoming concert master after only a short time with the ensemble. International tours include Canada, Mexico, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Continuing at Longy to receive her Certificate of Violin Performance, Chloe has competed in many competitions performing some of the world’s most iconic violin repertoire both solo and with orchestra.
Principal teachers include Clayton Hoener- principal second violinist of The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, as well as main study with the late Janet Packer- former Longy School of Music String Department Chair and acclaimed soloist. Secondary study with Mark Lakirovich, Sophie Vilker and Roman Totenberg.

In 2010 , Chloe moved back to Seattle and became a section violinist with The Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Adam Stern.

Chloe now makes her home in Lafayette, California and her private studio consists of over 50 families! Chloe is strongly influenced by those early years as a Suzuki student, and believes wholeheartedly in the magic of the Suzuki Method. She continues to study Suzuki violin pedagogy with principal mentor Charles Krigbaum, and has taken extensive training with Kerstin Wartberg, Diana Volodka Staggs, Edward Kreitman, Ann Montzka Smelser, Teri Eindfeld, Kathleen Spring and more. She is a registered Suzuki teacher in The Suzuki Association of the Americas, and an active member of The Suzuki Music Association of California as well as her local SAA chapter, The Suzuki Association of Northern California.

JENNY MACMILLAN

I have taught piano privately for over 30 years.  I have a thriving teaching practice of about 20 pupils aged between about three and 14, most pupils then moving to the junior departments of the London music colleges.

I teach according to the Suzuki approach, and am an ESA teacher trainer.  I run a Suzuki teacher training course in Cambridge, UK (see below), and have contributed to training courses and workshops in Norway, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands as well as the UK.

Since completing a masters degree in Psychology for Musicians at Sheffield University, I have written extensively about music education.  My acclaimed book, Successful Practising: A handbook for pupils, parents and music teachers, has been reprinted.  For ten years I was regional organiser of EPTA Cambs.

My website includes tutorials on how to teach and practise the Suzuki piano repertoire; recordings of the repertoire; and many articles on practising, on the Suzuki approach, and on other aspects of music education.

Piano Teacher Training course (Cambridge Suzuki Training)

My ESA piano teacher training course consists of three week-long courses each year – in August, beginning of January, and at Easter.  Training takes place in my own studio so trainees observe and interact with my pupils and their families.  Guest tutors have included Caroline Fraser, Caroline Gowers, Kristinn Orn Kristinsson, Ewa Guz-Seroka, Sue Bird, Beate Toyke, Helen Brunner, Heather Clemson, Paul Harris, Penelope Roskell and Sally Cathcart.

Those who wish to find out more about Suzuki, or who would like to consider this as useful in-service training, are welcome to join us.  Trainees and observers have come from Italy, Spain, Norway, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, America and Australia, as well as the UK.  Feedback from trainees has been enthusiastic.

Several of my articles about the Suzuki approach will be of interest to prospective trainees.  I would particularly recommend the eight articles on Suzuki for Piano published in Music Teacher magazine between 2008 and 2010, and the 13 articles in the special Suzuki issue of Piano Professional which I edited in January 2007.

I also run a Continuous Professional Development course for Suzuki teachers.  Some of the training, such as early parent education, practising, and group lesson activities, is non-instrument specific so non-pianists also may be interested to visit my studio.

Do email me if you are interested in finding out more about training courses.

DEVIN COPFER   is a performer, recording musician, registered Suzuki teacher, and arts entrepreneur based in Columbus, OH. Graduate of the Ohio State University [BM Violin Performance, BA Arts Management ’14].

Devin is the co-founder, director, and violinist in Chamber Brews, a new music performance series committed to breaking down the fourth wall in classical concerts. She also serves as violinist in Columbus’ new Janus String Quartet with the professor of cello at the Ohio State University Mark Rudoff, violist Nancy Nehring, and violinist Leah Anderson. Janus recently performed with BalletMet in their fall 2019 series BeMoved.

Devin is currently serving as Assistant Concertmaster in the Newark Granville Symphony Orchestra, and as Principal Second violinist with the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra. In her freelance performing career, she has worked with the Central Ohio Discovery Ensemble, the Ohio Song Project, Columbus Dance Theater, the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio Wesleyan University, the Ohio State University, Capital University, and the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Devin’s pop and rock projects include Small Songs [AVANT POP], Fables [FOLK/ROCK], Lowlights [FOLK/ROCK], BABS [FUNK/ROCK], and is a featured vocalist on the 2019 Waves de Ache [AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ] album.

A recipient of 2018 program grants from the Johnstone Fund for New Music and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Devin is an arts advocate dedicated to sustaining creative programs in the Central Ohio region.

Devin’s strong commitment to Suzuki violin teaching is revealed in her philosophy of nurturing responsibility and respect. She follows Dr. Suzuki’s notion that truly, everyone can learn, that “any child has the possibility to be musically inclined,” as long as we nurture a love of learning and creativity at home as well as in the studio. Devin believes that through music lessons, we not only get to know our playing, but we get to know ourselves. Through the violin we will cover work ethic, responsibility to music and learning, enrolling the immediate and extended family, the joy of hard work, and so much more. In my studio, we understand that success doesn’t come from outcome, but rather from our journey — and we get to learn how to play the violin as well!
